A Baltimore City woman was drawn to a new convenience store she just happened to be walking past and decided to look inside.
While there, she walked up to one of the Lottery terminals and selected a Deluxe Crossword scratch-off ticket on a whim. The $5 Deluxe Crossword 11th Edition ticket turned out to be a $50,000 top prize winner.
The newly opened store is City Mart and Deli at 101 North Schroeder Street in Baltimore. After buying her ticket, she took it home to scratch. She knew right away she had a winning ticket, but initially thought it was only a $5,000 winner.
The ticket showed four black words in Puzzle 1 and another four red words in Puzzle 2, which gives the winner a top prize of $50,000. She didn’t know how exactly how much she won until she went to another store to scan the ticket. Once it dawned on her that $50,000 would be coming her way, she just kept her cool and left the store.
Not sure of what to do next, she called and shared the news with her mother-in-law who promptly advised her to schedule an appointment at Lottery headquarters as soon as possible. The Baltimore woman has worked in nursing for 30-plus years and plans to use her winnings to pay bills. She’s also working towards a bachelor’s degree, so the extra money will come in handy in supporting her education.
City Mart and Deli receives a $500 bonus as the retailer that sold a top prize winning scratch-off.
