A 65-year-old is planning to add to her retirement account with a $50,000 top prize she won playing the Show Me $50,000! scratch-off just days after her birthday.
The big winner was about to catch the bus home one day last week when she stopped at the Stadium Osprey Crown gas station to purchase scratch-off games. The Baltimore resident bought two $5 Show Me $50,000! games because she has won small amounts on them in the past. The lucky lady played the games while waiting for her bus and revealed the big win.
“I scratched the winning numbers and saw I matched a four,” said the winner. “When I saw that $50,000 prize underneath, I jumped up!”
To avoid revealing the exciting moment with others at the bus stop, the retired hospital employee walked away from them and phoned her daughter. She told her to come to her house because she thought she won big.
“I was still doubting it,” said the top-prize winner.
Once home, the lucky player also called her brother who suggested she scan the instant ticket on her phone using the Lottery app. She did and the message staring back at her said, “Congratulations, $50,000 winner.”
The big winner sent a picture of the scratch-off and the message to her brother, who responded, “Looks right to me.” She then phoned her son to share the good news.
As the realization of winning the prize sank in, the grandmother of four waited a few days before deciding what to do next to claim her prize. The scratch-off fan plans to add funds to her retirement account and pay off some bills with the winnings.
Also celebrating is the Stadium Osprey Crown gas station located at 501 East 33rd Street that sold the ticket. The Baltimore City business will receive a $500 bonus for selling a top-prize winning $50,000 scratch-off.
