Beer Stop in Ellicott City Leads to $100,000 Lottery Scratch-Off Win

Pennsylvania player scores big on Power 10s

While visiting a friend in Maryland, a Pennsylvania man bought four Power 10s scratch-offs from the Ellicott City business where he stopped for refreshments. The 36-year-old left with the beverages and a $100,000 win on one of the $10 instant tickets.

“I was visiting a friend and stopped for beer,” said the Adams County resident after claiming his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “I scratched four tickets and that happened. I was like, ‘No way.’”

His big win occurred on Saturday, July 16. The magnitude of the situation, however, didn’t sink in for 24 hours.

“It didn’t hit me until I went to bed Sunday night and I couldn’t sleep,” said the winner. He went to work on Monday and the nervousness continued.

“I kept worrying about my house burning down. You never worry about your house burning down,” he said, adding that the exception is when the house contains a Lottery scratch-off worth a lot of money.

Now that his claim has been processed, the happy player can let the pleasant reality take hold without worrying about house fires or other bad scenarios. He will decide what to do with his windfall after he has time for unpressured contemplation.

Sharing in his good fortune is Normandy Wine & Spirits at 8492 Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City, which picks up a bonus of $1,000 for its role in selling a top-prize winning scratch-off of $100,000.
