A Montgomery County man decided to purchase a few Powerball tickets when the jackpot was at $1.4 billion for the Sept. 3 drawing, and, while he didn’t win all the marbles, he did hit for a $50,000 third-tier prize.
“I’m an infrequent player, but I try to play once a month, or when the jackpot grows,” the educator said.
According to the big winner, he saw on social media that there were four $50,000 winners in Maryland for the Sept. 3 drawing, so he checked his tickets. Sure enough, he was one of the four.
The winning numbers for that drawing are: 3, 16, 29, 61, 69 and, Powerball of 9. The northwest Montgomery County resident had a 29 instead of a 69, but matching four of the five numbers with the Powerball resulted in a $50,000 prize.
“It’s a strange feeling winning this type of money. I can only imagine what it would be like to win the jackpot,” the winner said. He plans to invest his prize money.
The winning ticket was sold at the Germantown Shoppers at 18066 Mateny Road in Montgomery County.
The Sept. 3 drawing also had three other $50,000 winners in Dundalk (unclaimed as of Sept. 9), Laurel and Temple Hills (unclaimed as of Sept. 9) and a second-tier $1 million winner was sold in Pikesville (unclaimed as of Sept. 9)
