Cumberland Man Surprised by $140,569 FAST PLAY Win

Cumberland resident Scott Twigg won’t stop working, but a $140,569 win on the FAST PLAY Lucky Numbers game will put him on track for a major lifestyle change.

A restaurant manager from Cumberland has big plans after winning $140,569 on a Maryland Lottery FAST PLAY ticket he bought on Sept. 7.

“I’m going to buy a house, get a car and put anything left in savings,” winner Scott Twigg said Sept. 9 when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, accompanied by his friend and his friend’s daughters.

On the day of the big win, Scott had cashed in about $100 in winning Lottery tickets at the Sheetz convenience store at 429 Virginal Avenue in Cumberland. He initially was looking to play one of the MONOPOLY™ scratch-off games, but the one he had in mind wasn’t available. Instead he started playing some $5 FAST PLAY tickets and cashing in on some small prizes.

He decided to try the $10 FAST PLAY Lucky Numbers progressive jackpot game, and that’s when his luck changed from OK to out of this world.

But he didn’t realize it at first.

“I scanned it and it said to take it to the cashier. I did and she said she couldn’t cash it. I said, ‘Why not?’ and she said, because you just won the jackpot,” Scott said.

The cashier then pointed out where one of his lucky numbers was an 8 and it matched the 8 over an icon that said “Progressive Jackpot.”

FAST PLAY progressive jackpot games have a top prize that increases each time someone buys a ticket. The Lucky Numbers jackpot starts at $100,000. As of Sept. 9, two days after Scott’s win, the prize had increased to more than $101,000.

Scott says he will continue to work a lot of hours, but the windfall will allow him to breathe a little easier.

Also getting in on the action is the Sheetz store, which receives a bonus of $1,000 for selling the winning ticket.
