Eastern Shore Electrical Estimator Shocked to Win $50,000 Prize

Scratch-off ticket delivers his biggest-ever win

“Shock” isn’t a term a Caroline County man likes to think about in his line of work, but the word accurately describes his reaction upon revealing the prize on a $500,000 Crossword instant ticket he purchased late last month. He told Lottery officials that despite the elation he felt on the inside, he kept his cool.

The Eastern Shore resident told us that two or three times a month he gets the urge to buy a scratch ticket on his way home from work. After spending his day in the world of electrical engineering, on those “lottery nights” he enjoys imagining what it might feel like to take home a big cash prize. He no longer has to wonder what that feels like.

“It was a huge rush,” he told us. “The adrenaline really kicked in when I saw the $50,000 prize. Just a huge surprise.”

He was standing in Bullock’s Deli in Denton when it happened. “I stopped in for gas and coffee, that was it.” Seeing the store’s Lottery vending machine, however, put the idea in his head. “I usually pick tickets randomly when I play,” he explained when asked why he chose the $500,000 Crossword game. “But when I saw that top prize, the $500,000, I knew what I wanted.”

Our winner told us that his $50,000 second-tier prize will go directly into the bank. Odds are the next ticket he purchases will be from Bullock’s, his new lucky Lottery retailer. The Caroline County business can be found at 610 Campground Road.

$500,000 Crossword, a $20 ticket, debuted in February with five half-million dollar top prizes.  Three remain in circulation, as well as five of the $50,000 second-tier prizes that “shocked” our happy electric estimator.
