A Queen Anne’s County man was full of excitement as he brought home the final $50,000 prize winner on the Maryland Lottery Joker’s Wild scratch-off game.
The Eastern Shore resident said he saw the $5 game had a single top prize left and decided to purchase a few tickets. When he scratched one of those tickets, he saw he had a number with a $50,000 prize.
“I was stunned. I couldn’t believe it,” he said Aug. 11 after claiming his winnings at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The big winner said he wanted to make sure his eyes weren’t deceiving him so he gave his ticket to a store clerk to scan without saying a word that it was a possible winner.
“When he scanned and I saw the grin on his face, I knew it was real,” the loyal player added.
He used a quarter to scratch off the ticket and he is saving that coin to use on future scratch-offs.
“Now I have a lucky quarter,” he said with a laugh. The player said he is going to use his prize to square his finances.
Live on TV at 6198 Greenbelt Road in the Prince George’s County community of Greenbelt, which sold the winning ticket, receives a bonus of $500, equal to 1% percent of the prize value.
Joker’s Wild was released on July 22, 2024 and is in the process of being closed out. There are still many lower-tier prizes ranging from $5 and $5,000 that must be claimed by March 2, 2026, when the game expires.
