Jackpot hunter finds a $50,000 Powerball prize
Though he tries to never get too high or too low when life throws him a curveball, a Delaware man told Lottery officials that this policy was pushed to its limits last week when he scanned a Powerball ticket and saw the prize awaiting him. “I’m generally a calm, laid-back guy, but $50,000 is $50,000!”
The medical specialist is an occasional Lottery player and finds himself on this side of the border often enough to have tried several Maryland games.
“I enjoy the games here, but I especially like the fact that I can remain anonymous if I win something big.” He confided that he plays the big jackpot games Maryland offers for this very reason. “I want to keep it quiet when I win my millions,” he added with a smile.
Pilot Travel Center at 221 Belle Hill Road in Elkton sold the $50,000 Powerball winner. One of the $10 Quick Pick ticket’s five lines of numbers correctly matched four of the winning numbers and the Power Ball in the August 31 drawing.
“It was a real shock when I saw it,” the Delaware man told us about his experience in the Cecil County Lottery retailer. “I must have scanned it five times, sure that it would change.” Regardless, he walked out of the store calmly. “It took a lot, but I kept my cool.”
Our latest Powerball winner plans to use some of his third-tier prize to help put together an important family event.
