A Pick 5 winner is crediting another Pick 5 winner for her $50,000 score in the June 23 midday drawing.

The Forestville woman, who is calling herself “Grateful Winner,” said she read an article on the Maryland Lottery website about a Waldorf player who decided to play one of his Pick 5 number combinations after seeing variations of his numbers drawn.

According to the Prince George’s County resident, she had played the number 56389 for more than a year. After reading the Pick 5 winner’s story, she  started to look for patterns in the winning numbers. “Grateful Winner” noticed the number 6 was the first digit drawn four times in Pick 5 drawings from June 5 to June 21.

She wanted to try an experiment, so she switched the 5 and 6 around in her favorite number to 65389 and placed a $1 straight bet for both June 23 drawings. She won!

“I just started playing that number last week and I couldn’t believe it,” said “Grateful Winner.”

The federal government worker said she learned she won while getting a manicure. She was checking her tickets on her phone and then the manicurist could tell something happened to her client.

“My eyes started to water. I was shaking and I couldn’t see,” recalled “Grateful Winner.”

The lucky player accidentally dropped the ticket in all of the excitement and the manicurist picked it up and told her to sign the back of the ticket, which she did.

“Grateful Winner” said she is going to use the $50,000 to pay off bills.

Staff at the District Heights 7-Eleven #29609 are also happy that “Grateful Winner” made that adjustment to win the $50,000 prize. The Prince George’s County retailer at 7300 Marlboro Pike will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for making the lucky sale.
