Wins $50,000 top prize, smaller prizes at same retailer
A Frederick man who said he enjoys playing a variety of Lottery games took a liking to the recently launched $50,000 Cash scratch-off. The $20 game returned the favor, delivering five small prizes one day and a $50,000 top prize several days later.
The lucky winner said he visits several Lottery retailers, but the journey to his big win began at Beckley’s Country Store in Frederick. He landed a $20 prize, three $50 prizes and a $100 prize on $50,000 Cash tickets he bought there.
Several days later, he returned to the store and bought three more $50,000 Cash tickets. He scanned the tickets’ prize check codes while he was at the store and couldn’t believe the number of zeros that popped up on the scanner for one of them.
“Did I just see that?” he recalls saying to himself. Yes, the scanner did read $50,000! The happy winner was alone in the store with the clerk, who was getting a new scratch-off book ready to put on sale. “I said, ‘Hey, I got the top prize!’” he recalls telling the clerk. The Frederick County store, which is located at 7611 Willow Road, can also celebrate because the retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
The winner plans to pay off vehicle loans with his prize and do some home improvements. This is his largest prize to date compared to his prior record of $10,000. He plays a variety of Lottery games, from scratch-offs to Keno and the national jackpot games.
