A Frederick couple’s summer just got more exciting thanks to a $50,000 win on the Money Maker scratch-off game.
Initially, however, there was some confusion about the win.
“I wasn’t sure it was a winner,” the wife said July 10 when the two visited Lottery headquarters to claim the prize, adding “I thought I won $50,000.”
Her husband looked at the scratch-off and confirmed the ticket was a top-prize winner. The couple plans to take a vacation with the prize money and will place the rest into savings.
“It is a nice little windfall. It is nice to get some extra cash,” the wife said.
She went on to say she prefers to buy tickets that are low in inventory in a store’s stock. The $5 Money Maker had five tickets left when she visited the Giant Foods at 18331 Leaman Farm Road in Germantown, so she bought all five.
She also credits a lucky coin for helping her scratch the winning ticket.
“I always use a quarter by my nightstand,” the loyal player explained.
For selling the top-tier winning scratch-off, the Montgomery County Giant store receives a bonus of $500.
Money Maker went on sale in December 2025 with eight top prizes of $50,000. The Frederick couple are the sixth winners to claim and two $50,000 remain unclaimed along with prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000.
