Frederick Man Walks Out of Store with $50,000 Scratch-off Prize

Winnings on $50,000 Cash game will go toward children’s college bills

A Frederick County resident left a Gaithersburg liquor store $50,000 richer after winning the top prize on a $50,000 Cash scratch-off.

The Frederick man explained that he checked his winning scratch-off at the store and was shocked when it revealed his big win. “I didn’t believe it. I still didn’t believe it as I walked out of the store,” said the lucky player.

The winner didn’t tell anyone in the store about his Lottery luck, waiting until he got home to share news of his fortune with his wife. His $50,000 prize will go toward bills, he said, which include college tuition. “We have three kids in college so it won’t last long,” he said.

The construction worker is a casual scratch-off player who happened to buy the right game at the right time at the right store. “I like to play every once in a while, and I will continue to play,” he said.

His winning ticket came from Brighton Beer & Wine at 225 Muddy Branch Road in Montgomery County. This Gaithersburg store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.

He is the 42nd player to win the top prize on this $20 game, but 118 $50,000 prizes still remain unclaimed. There are also more than 855,000 prizes available ranging from $20 to $5,000. The $50,000 Cash game began on Dec. 29. The game was the seventh most popular scratch-off sold last week in all price categories.
