Gaithersburg Parents Win $50,000 on Lucky Scratch-off

Claim third of eight top prizes on Gold Bar Bingo instant ticket

A young mom and her husband from Montgomery County picked up something that will come in handy as they raise their 1-year-old son: a $50,000 prize on the Gold Bar Bingo scratch-off

The Gaithersburg couple purchased the $5 instant ticket at the Sunoco gas station at the Chesapeake House rest stop on I-95 near North East in Cecil County. The husband bought the instant ticket on Oct. 31, but didn’t scratch off the game until two days later. The family arrived at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Nov. 3 to claim the prize and were still pondering what to do with the windfall.

“We haven’t really thought about it,” said the wife. She was certain, however, they would celebrate at a restaurant where their young son has an opportunity to play.

For selling a top-prize winning scratch-off ticket, the Chesapeake House Sunoco receives a bonus of $500 from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.

On the market since midsummer, Gold Bar Bingo was ranked this week in the No. 20 spot on the Maryland Lottery list of top 40 scratch-offs. The prize claimed by the Gaithersburg parents was the third top-prize winner claimed, leaving another five $50,000 prizes unclaimed along with five $10,000 prizes.
