Glen Burnie winner “Mega Money Mike” plans to take his wife on a vacation for her birthday after winning a $50,000 Mega Money scratch-off prize.
When a Glen Burnie carpenter came home from work one day last week in a really good mood, his wife of 38 years had a feeling something exciting had happened. She knows her husband well. He had just revealed a $50,000 prize on a $30 Mega Money scratch-off.
Earlier that day, “Mega Money Mike” visited Soda Pop Shop at 337 Hospital Drive in Glen Burnie and purchased a scratch-off. He scratched the ticket while still at the store and saw a lot of his numbers matching the winning numbers. It turned out all 40 spots on the ticket were winners, leaving “Mega Money Mike” to do a lot of math.
Instead of adding up all the dollar amounts, he took the ticket to the clerk and said, “I don’t know how much I won, but I can tell it’s going to be big.” After having the ticket scanned on the Lottery terminal, he saw his grand total was $50,000.
When “Mega Money Mike” arrived home, he immediately hugged his daughter and showed his wife the ticket.
“I saw a few $5,000 spots and then more, so I just told him to tell me how much he won,” Mike’s wife said while vising Lottery headquarters to claim the prize on Jan. 20. “Then, I asked, ‘How many zeroes is that?’”
With his wife’s birthday approaching, they’ll likely take a trip to celebrate, but otherwise have no immediate plans for the prize.
The ticket has a top prize of $2 million, of which four remain unclaimed. “Mega Money Mike’s” prize was the fourth at the $50,000 level to be claimed, leaving another four in the wild.
