Glen Burnie Racetrax Player Finds Trifecta Box Bet a $31,233 Winner

Home repairs among possible uses for prize money

The allure of winning is a big part of what attracts a Maryland Lottery player from Glen Burnie to try his luck with Racetrax. On Aug. 30, he scored his biggest win to date: $31,233 on a Trifecta Box wager.

Thrilled about the prize, the 56-year-old said it was far and away his best Lottery haul to date.

“It’s the first time I’ve won big,” he said, adding his previous best hits were in the $100 range. Although he hadn’t made any firm decisions about what to do with his winnings, home renovations are high on his list of options.

The win came as a total surprise and initially put him in a state of disbelief. The player did not watch the winning race on his 10-race ticket and ended up checking for a prize after the race ended. He asked himself, “Is this machine right?” and then checked his ticket again. The machine was, indeed, spot on, as he told the clerk at the store.

The winner plans to celebrate the score with family and friends, although details were still in the works when he claimed his prize Sept. 1 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

Sharing in the celebration is the Anne Arundel County store where he bought the winning ticket. Latela’s Discount Liquors at 2733 Annapolis Road in Hanover receives a bonus of $312.33 from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
