Hanover Lottery Player Wins $50,000 on Single Powerball Combo

All it takes is one ticket! An Anne Arundel County man bought a single Powerball ticket for the Christmas Eve drawing and took home a $50,000 third-tier prize.

“The jackpot was high,” he said Dec. 29 when he claimed his prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, wife at his side.

Indeed it was. On that same drawing, a player in Arkansas ended up with a winning ticket worth $1.817 billion.

The Hanover player’s win involved a bit of serendipity. Far from being a regular player, even when the jackpot is big enough to get his attention, he typically buys tickets only for weekend drawings. In this case, however, the drawing was coming up on a holiday, so he ended up in a bit of a weekend mode and made a single $2 ticket purchase at the Royal Farms store at 8268 Lark Brown Drive in Elkridge.

Asked what they plan to do with the winnings the pair is in agreement that they hadn’t given it much thought. It will end up being invested, but the exact nature of the investment had not been decided.
