Her off-and-on style of playing the Maryland Lottery won her the first $100,000, but a Baltimore County woman’s mistake, initially costing her $2, increased her Pick 5 win to $150,000 in the Sept. 8 drawing.
She doesn’t play all the time, but when she buys tickets, it’s always for the next two drawings. While claiming her prize at Lottery headquarters on Sept. 11, she said when purchasing her tickets for the Sept. 8 evening and Sept. 9 midday, “I accidentally hit it a third time.”
At her side, her husband didn’t miss a beat, adding: “Keep doing it!”
By coincidence, she also won on boxed bet tickets the following day, adding to her win by $10,000, but she redeemed those two $5,000 tickets at a Lottery Expanded Cashing Authority Program location.
The longtime player has had some good Lottery luck through the years previously winning $50,000 and $25,000 prizes.
Still, her most recent win caught her off guard.
“I couldn’t believe it! I kept looking at the numbers,” she said. Her combination, 20250, was easy to remember because she has a grandson who graduated high school this year, and she just added a 0 to the end for her Pick 5 bet.
Her previous $50,000 prize paid to replace her furnace and air conditioner, and that was so long ago that the furnace needs to be replaced again.
“Last time I hit for $50,000 I got a new furnace and air conditioner and paid cash. I’m going to do the same this time,” she said.
Only this time her prize is three times as large, so she’ll end up with some left over that’s going into savings.
She bought the winning tickets at the Carroll Motor Fuels location at 8710 Liberty Road in Randallstown, which receives bonuses totaling $1,500 for selling the winning tickets.
