In a Rush, Baltimore Lottery Queen’s Quick Scratch Nets $100,000 Prize

She’s self-proclaimed Maryland Lottery scratch-off royalty and on Feb. 23, she claimed a king’s ransom of a prize in the form of a $100,000 win on the $10 Red 5’s Doubler game.

“I’m a queen with scratch-offs,” the Baltimore woman said.

Usually, she enjoys taking her time while scratching the tickets, anticipating a possible win, but on this occasion her husband was waiting outside the Carroll Motor Fuels station at 2535 Cleanleigh Drive in Parkville.

“I had to hurry,” she said, adding that she scratched only the prize check and scanned it on the vending machine. She got a message to take the ticket to the Lottery, but wasn’t sure what that meant. She showed it to the clerk, who confirmed the ticket was a top prize winner. Then, they both started screaming.

Her husband, who accompanied her to claim the prize, said he was initially skeptical when she returned to the car proclaiming the win, but he has since been convinced the win is real.

The winner is retired from a government position, but is still working part-time as a contractor. Her big win is making her re-think that situation. She plans to pay some bills, take a trip to Florida, Aruba or Jamaica, and put the balance in the bank.

This is far and away her biggest win ever, though her husband reports she’s been pretty lucky with wins of $50, $100 and as much as $1,000 over the years.

Carrol Motor Fuels will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the $100,000 top prize ticket.

In stores since Dec. 5, 2025, Red 5’s Doubler started with nine $100,000 prizes, and this win reduces the number still in circulation to five. In addition, six of the game’s 11 original $20,000 prizes, along with 17 prizes of $10,000 remain unclaimed.
