Casual player decided to try his luck because he had extra cash
A Prince George’s County man recently found some extra cash in his pocket and purchased a $10 Money Drop scratch-off. Now, he has a lot of cash – $100,000 to be exact – dropping into his bank account.
The computer programmer found his lucky instant ticket at Sandy Spring Exxon, located at 7801 Old Sandy Spring Road in Laurel. He stopped in, as usual, to purchase gas. The Laurel resident reports that he only plays scratch-offs a few times a year. He happened to have the extra $10 in his pocket the day his lucky scratch-off caught his eye.
“I looked over and saw the purple in the Money Drop scratch-offs so I decided to buy one,” he said.
When he started to scratch off the game, the winner saw that his number 18 on the first line matched one of the game’s winning numbers. And, hidden below his winning number 18, was the $100,000 top prize. The win took a while to register, he said, as he continued to scratch off the rest of the instant ticket. Then, he went back to the top of the game to look at his matching number again.
“At first, I didn’t believe it. I took a picture to send to my friend,” the happy player said with a smile. The big winner plans to pay bills with his windfall and place the rest of his prize into his bank account.
Also a winner is his lucky Lottery retailer. Sandy Spring Exxon in Prince George’s County will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning instant ticket.
The Laurel resident becomes the third top-prize winner in the game. The scratch-off went on sale at Lottery retailers on Dec. 28, 2023. Five of eight top prizes of $100,000 are still unclaimed. There are also seven unclaimed $50,000 prizes along with others ranging from $10 to $10,000.
