Laurel Lottery Player Buys Ticket on a Whim and Wins $50,000 Scratch-off Prize

An occasional Maryland Lottery player from Laurel says she’s quitting while she’s ahead after claiming a winning $50,000 Break the Bank scratch-off she purchased on a whim.

While claiming her prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on March 12, she said she had stopped at the Wawa store at 9600 Fort Meade Road in Laurel to get something to drink and the Lottery vending machine in the store caught her eye.

After the $5 Break the Bank ticket dispensed, she scratched it in the store and confirmed her win by scanning the ticket on the vending machine.

She said she is not sure how she will end up spending the extra money, noting she was still stunned by the surprise of winning.

The Wawa receives a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize total.

The Break the Bank scratch-off has two $50,000 top prizes remaining, along with tens of thousands of prizes between $5 and $5,000.
