Lottery-loving Grandma Inspires Baltimore Man’s $50,000 Pick 5 Win

She phones winner to see if he played his lucky number

A Baltimore man found out he was a $50,000 Pick 5 winner after receiving a phone call from his grandmother.

“I was lying in bed when my grandmother called. She told me to check my Lottery tickets,” he explained. The 27-year-old did check his $1 straight bet ticket and saw that his lucky number 66524 hit in the Jan. 19 midday drawing to give him the big prize.

According to the winner, his number was selected randomly once and then he continued to play it. He credits his love for the Lottery to his grandmother.

“She has been playing for years,” said the city resident. “She keeps on asking how I am going to spend the money and she keeps giving me ideas.”

The data entry clerk plans to purchase a gift for his grandmother with his winnings and will use some of the money to pay moving costs. He also might try to start a business. The loyal player plans to keep enjoying Pick 5, too.

“I never thought Pick 5 would be a thing but I am glad. I love that game,” he said.

The Pulaski Highway BP at 3505 Pulaski Highway sold the ticket to our lucky winner. The Baltimore City retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000-winning Pick 5 ticket.
