Heeding a suggestion leads to $100,000 win on $100,000 Crossword game
A Baltimore man who rarely plays Lottery games listened to suggestions that he try his luck recently. The result — he walked away with a $100,000 top-prize scratch-off win!
Last weekend, the novice player was grocery shopping with friends at Omega Grocery & Market in Baltimore when Lottery luck came calling. He wasn’t even thinking about the Lottery when a friend’s uncle urged him to buy a scratch-off. His response was that he doesn’t play.
“He told me to play anyway,” recalled the player. “I didn’t even know how to play it.”
The extended-play game selected was a $100,000 Crossword 8th Edition scratch-off. Instead of scratching off the instant ticket, he used the scanner in the store. However, there was a scanning error and the player didn’t know what to do so he pocketed the scratch-off and went home.
Once there, the lucky man decided to scratch off the game. He was so new to the crossword-themed instant ticket he didn’t know how to tell if he won. He showed the scratch-off to his friend and his friend’s uncle, who were both very surprised.
“They said, “You have 10 words,’” said the winner, smiling at the memory, “and when I looked at the game, it said 10 words is $100,000!”
The excited winner and his friend went to another Lottery retailer, where the scanner confirmed the big prize. “I had to step outside for a minute,” the winner recalled after claiming the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “I don’t normally freak out, but I did this time.”
His windfall comes at a great time, said the player, noting that he will save his fortune. The retailer that sold the instant ticket, Omega Grocery & Market located at 222 Northpoint Boulevard in Baltimore City will receive a $1,000 Lottery bonus for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off.
The $100,000 Crossword 8th Edition scratch-off still has lots of prizes to be won. Four $100,000 top prizes remain as well as seven $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000.
