A Maryland Lottery enthusiast from Rockville knows the drill when it comes to winning big prizes, so when he made the trip up I-95 to Baltimore to claim a $50,000 prize June 1, he knew exactly what he wanted: a low-key experience.
Over the years, he’s won plenty of prizes up to the $1,000 range and a few eye-poppers. Still, his $50,000 win on the 2nd edition of THE BIG SPIN scratch-off got his attention.
He bought the ticket at the Centerway Mini Mart at 109 Centerway in Greenbelt. When he scratched to reveal the prize, the first thing he did was tell his wife.
“She didn’t believe me, in the beginning,” he said.
He plans to use the winnings to improve his family’s financial situation.
The Prince George’s County retailer will receive a $500 for selling the $50,000 winning ticket.
THE BIG SPIN is a $5 scratch-off game that launched March 20. Players who reveal a “SPIN” symbol can scan their scratch-off at a Lottery retailer or by using the Lottery’s app. Most “SPIN” prizes lead to a cash prize of $10 to $250. The game started with eight tickets that send players to try their luck with The Big Spin Wheel at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. Four of the spin prizes have been claimed. Players who spin win a minimum of $50,000 and up to $250,000.
The game also started with three $50,000 instant wins, and the Rockville winner claimed the second, leaving a single prize at that level unclaimed.
