Eastern Shore player wins with $5,000,000 Fortune game
When a store clerk suggested she buy the three-day-old $5,000,000 Fortune scratch-off, a lucky lady who goes by the nickname “Mama D” figured she’d give the $50 instant ticket a try. The Salisbury-area resident bought the game, along with some other scratch-offs, and found herself $100,000 richer.
The Eastern Shore resident bought the instant tickets at one of her regular Lottery retailers in Wicomico County. The helpful clerk works at Royal Farms located at 101 West Cedar Lane in Fruitland.
“Let this be a big win,” “Mama D” recalls saying to herself while still in the store as she prepared to reveal a potential fortune on the $50 game. After seeing one of her numbers match a winning number, followed by another match, she grew more confident of “a big win.” After racking up 10 matches at $10,000 a pop, she was quite excited about her $100,000 prize.
The happy player called family members to share the exiting news of her win. She has not made any plans yet for her prize. An employee of the federal government since 2008, “Mama D” also works a part-time job. For now, she plans to put her windfall into her savings account. When not working or playing Lottery games, “Mama D” enjoys knitting and spending time with family members.
The $5,000,000 Fortune scratch-off went on sale Feb. 10 with three $5,000,000 top prizes, which are still available, and nine $100,000 prizes. Eight second-tier prizes remain. Also awaiting discovery are all nine $50,000 prizes, 90 $10,000 prizes and others ranging from $50 to $5,000.
