Montgomery County Mom Claims $50,000 Scratch-Off Prize

An excited visitor to Lottery headquarters told officials last week that she rarely buys scratch-offs, but every once in a while, she gets the urge to try her luck. A mid-July stop at a convenience was the last time this impulse hit her, and she’s glad she listened to her instinct that day since the 100X the Cash ticket she bought was a $50,000 winner.

“There’s no explaining it,” the Silver Spring resident said. “I’m in stores that sell Lottery all the time, I see the signs all the time, and I just walk on by.” Happily, during a visit to the 7-Eleven at 3737 Hamilton Street in Hyattsville last month, she stopped walking past.

After choosing a 100X the Cash scratch-off for her once-in-a-blue moon Lottery purchase, the rental property manager put the ticket in her purse and headed home.

The $20 scratch-off debuted in early January with seven $1 million and three $50,000 prizes. Three of the former and two of the latter remained unclaimed when she made her purchase. That purchase removed one of those $50,000 winning tickets from the mix.

“I just stared at it for a long time in disbelief. Looking again and again to see if anything on it changed. I finally said to myself, ‘It’s real.’” Even then, she wasn’t 100% sold that what appeared to be happening was really, in fact, happening.

The happy Montgomery County mom plans to put her winnings into the family tuition fund.
