A Gwynn Oak man received a Bonus Crossword scratch-off as a gift from his nephew. That gift turned into a $30,000 win.
The big winner and his nephew visited Lottery headquarters on June 2 where they explained the ticket was just a random gift. No ties to a birthday or holiday.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was totally shocked,” the winner said when it was revealed he won a $30,000 top prize.
According to the retired graphic designer, he purchases a few scratch-offs a week and was pleased that his nephew gave him a ticket. The nephew was happy for his uncle and received a little more than a thank you.
“I threw a couple of dollars his way since he bought the ticket,” the uncle said.
The Baltimore County resident plans to use the money to pay off bills.
The $3 ticket was purchased at Hopkins Citgo at 2001 Orleans Street in Baltimore. For selling the winning ticket, the City retailer will receive a $300 bonus.
The 7th edition of Bonus Crossword launched on Feb. 10 with eight top prizes of $30,000. This is our second top-prize winner. A Severn woman won the first $30,000 prize back in April and she also received her ticket as a gift. There are still prizes available ranging from $3 to $5,000.
