Pick 5 Delivers $50,000 Prize to Harford County Postman

He’s in the package delivery business, but on Aug. 6 a postal employee made the trip to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to pick up a bundle – of money. The $50,000 he won playing Pick 5 – by far the biggest of the long-time player’s wins – was well worth the trip.

It was family birthdays that produced the big win, the Aberdeen resident said. The combination on his $1 straight-bet Pick 5 ticket, 7-2-4-0-3, matched the evening results on July 21 exactly, earning him a spot among those who’ve won the game’s top prize.

He discovered his good fortune while at work.

“I looked up the results on my phone and could not believe it when I saw my numbers. I had to ask a co-worker to check to see if I was seeing things,” he said.

Asked how he felt when the $50,000 win was confirmed, he said he was, of course, shocked to have won, but also surprised that the feeling was not what expected.

“I’ve won big prizes playing Pick 3 and Pick 4 more than a few times over the years,” the Harford County man said. “But this is a whole different thing.”

The Pick 5 winner purchased his ticket from the Royal Farms store at 9620 Belair Road in Perry Hall. For selling the top-prize winner, the Baltimore County business receives a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
