Potomac Powerball Player Lands $50,000 Quick-Pick Win

Claims prize in Jan. 5 drawing

A Montgomery County man is $50,000 richer after trying his luck in the Jan. 5 Powerball drawing.

The Potomac resident only missed winning a $632.6 million jackpot that night by one number. Tickets sold in Wisconsin and California shared the jackpot prize. The 78-year-old was one of 90 players around the country and one of two in Maryland to win a $50,000 third-tier prize in the Jan. 5 drawing.

The anonymous winner bought his lucky $10 quick-pick ticket on Jan. 5 at Westlake Wine & Beer in Bethesda. The Montgomery County Lottery retailer is located at 10442 Autopark Avenue in Bethesda.

The jackpot has rolled after every drawing since Jan. 5 and reached an estimated annuity value of $123 million for the Wednesday, Feb. 2 drawing. The estimated cash option is $84.7 million.
