Puzzle Game Enthusiast Wins $50,000 on Lottery Crossword Ticket

A devotee of Maryland Lottery bingo and crossword scratch-offs claimed the first of what her husband anticipates will be several big prizes Jan. 2: a $50,000 top prize on the $5 Deluxe Crossword 10th Edition game.

The winner said she enjoys playing the bingo and crossword games because they take a longer time to play compared to other scratch-off play styles. The prospect of winning combined with the diversion of committing a few minutes to playing a crossword or bingo game is what makes the games worth playing, the winner reports. Her husband, at her side when she claimed, affirms he has purchased tickets for her in the past for other styles of scratch-off. While she plays them, she doesn’t get as much enjoyment from “just scratching numbers.”

The winner first took an interest in playing Lottery scratch-offs about two decades ago when she received one as a gift from her parents on her 18th birthday. For many of the intervening years, professional commitments have resulted in her living overseas, but more recently she has been stateside in Maryland and playing her games regularly.

Prior to her $50,000 win, her previous personal best Lottery win was $500. That said, she continues to play and at the time of claiming her windfall, she had about $275 in winning tickets waiting in the car to cash out.

She plans to put half of the proceeds of her winnings away in savings and use the balance to pay off some recently purchased fitness equipment and also buy new bedroom furniture.

She bought the ticket at the Safeway grocery store at 990 Swann Creek Road in Fort Washington. The store will receive a bonus of $500 for selling the top-prize winner.

The Montgomery County winner’s top prize is the third of eight on this edition of the Deluxe Crossword game, leaving another four unclaimed at the $50,000 level. In addition, there are tens of thousands of other prizes remaining on the game, ranging from $5 to $10,000.
