Gaithersburg man buys lucky Superfecta quick-pick ticket
Every so often, the Montgomery County resident will add a Racetrax quick-pick ticket to his Lottery purchase just for fun. A few times, he recalled, he won a few hundred dollars. His track record changed for the better on Feb. 18 when the Gaithersburg man bought a $1 Racetrax Superfecta quick-pick ticket. He won $140,903!
The occasional player found himself at Shady Grove Beer & Wine that day with plans to buy a Multi-Match ticket for the Feb. 20 drawing. He added the Racetrax ticket to his Lottery purchase and left the store to drive home, not watching to see if his horses — 4, 12, 8 and 11 — would bring home a big payday.
“I drove back home and I checked it in my driveway,” he said of the winning Racetrax ticket. Excitedly realizing his big score, the player ran inside and shared his great news with a family member.
He’s keeping word of the big win a secret and plans to use his prize to pay bills and boost his bank account. As for the Multi-Match ticket, it failed to deliver a prize, the winner said. Because no one hit the Multi-Match jackpot in the Feb. 20 drawing, he can still try to win tonight’s estimated $3.3 million jackpot or seek the cash option of $1.9 million (before taxes).
His lucky Lottery retailer can also celebrate. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more, Shady Grove Beer & Wine located at 15904 Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg will receive a Lottery bonus of $1,409. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
