A Baltimore County man told Lottery officials he’s a daily games player who generally has no interest in other tickets. But it wasn’t Pick 3 or Pick 5 that brought him to lottery headquarters on Jan. 7 to collect a $100,000 prize; it was the Holiday Raffle.
“I’ve been a Pick games player for a long, long time, so I can’t tell you why I bought a Raffle ticket,” the retired Amtrak employee,” said. “I just don’t know. Maybe because it was something new.”
He purchased his Holiday Raffle ticket from Eddie B’s Market at 1006 Wilson Point Road in Middle River, where he sometimes plays his daily games numbers as well.
“I never expected to win anything,” he explained. “Certainly nothing like this.”
After scanning his raffle ticket, he described how he felt as a different kind of excitement than he’s ever felt before.
“The only word I could think or say was ‘crazy.’ I’ve won plenty of times in the past, including pretty big Pick 3 and Pick 4 prizes, but I was not prepared for this. This was just crazy.”
Sharing his good fortune with family and a favorite charity are among the winner’s plans for his $100,000 prize.
The Maryland Lottery Holiday Raffle ran Nov. 3 through Jan. 1, with winning numbers drawn on Jan. 2, including for a top prize of $1 million and 10 prizes of $100,000 each. The winning numbers – including 10,000 for prizes of $50 to $500 – were selected from among the 237,206 sequentially numbered tickets sold.
Tickets, numbered 000001 through 237206, were $20 each and were available at Maryland Lottery retailers across the state.
A list of all winning numbers is available on the Holiday Raffle page at mdlottery.com, and the page also has a search tool that can be used to check specific numbers to see if they are winners. Holiday Raffle tickets can also be checked by scanning them with the Maryland Lottery app, or at any Lottery retailer. Winners have 182 days from Jan. 2 to claim their prizes.
