A retired CEO from Nottingham wanted to add some extra excitement to his usual round of lottery play, so he made an executive decision and bought two of the $5,000,000 LUXE scratch-off tickets. He ended up winning a $50,000 third-tier prize on the $50 game.
The tickets were purchased at his usual place of Lottery play, Perry Hall Liquors at 8673 Belair Road in Perry Hall.
The Nottingham man nearly missed out on his winning ticket. The first ticket he bought was the very last ticket of a pack. After discovering that ticket was a non-winner, he nearly decided against buying a second one. A new pack of the $5,000,000 LUXE ticket would have to be opened and he was skeptical about the prospect of the first ticket in a new pack being a winner.
Instead of walking away, though, he decided to take a chance on that first ticket, and that’s the one that put $50,000 in his pocket. Neither he nor the store clerk could believe it.
The Lottery regular has won before, but his previous personal best was a $2,500 prize on Pick 4, he said.
The former executive shared the news with only a few close friends. He plans to invest his winnings in high interest certificates of deposit, and also put some in a regular bank account.
In 2011, he retired from being CEO of deli chain, giving him more time to enjoy his exercise and fitness related hobbies.
The $5,000,000 LUXE ticket was launched in February and several prizes still remain, including all three $5 million top prizes, 10 prizes at the $200,000 level, and tens of thousands of smaller prizes.
