Retired Crownsville Cop Nabs $100,000 Winning Scratch-off

Reveals game’s top prize while waiting for grandson

The $100,000 Extreme Cash scratch-off game, which went on sale in September 2020 with a whopping 64 $100,000 top prizes, delivered its latest big win to a retired police officer from Anne Arundel County.

Lottery luck was shining on the 69-year-old the week before the Christmas holiday. The Crownsville resident was shopping and stopped at his favorite Lottery retailer, Waterbury Liquors, to pick up two of the $100,000 Extreme Cash scratch-offs. The loyal player often purchases scratch-offs and sits in his car to play them while waiting to pick up his grandson at school.

“I scratch the winning numbers and memorize them,” said the player. “Then, I scratch the rest of the ticket looking for a match.”

If one of his numbers matches a winning number, he will then reveal the prize beneath that number. On this special day in December, he found a match. “When I scratched the $100,000 prize, I just was so surprised,” he said.

The big winner checked the instant ticket three times to make sure he was seeing the numbers correctly before calling his wife to share the news. “I think she was more excited than I was,” he said.

The father of two and grandfather of three shared that he will use his winnings to help his family financially. In fact, he had already helped his daughter purchase a new car even though he hadn’t yet claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters! The happy winner also plans to donate to charity.

For its role in selling the top-prize winning scratch-off, Waterbury Liquors located at 1021 Generals Highway in Crownsville will earn a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

The $100,000 Extreme Cash game still has big prizes available. There are 24 $100,000 top prizes remaining as well as more than 330,000 unclaimed prizes ranging from $30 to $5,000.
