Gaithersburg man claims $500,000 top prize on $500,000 Crossword game
A Montgomery County scratch-off fan will have few financial worries after he retires in September. He’ll leave the workforce with a half a million-dollar windfall won on a $500,000 Crossword scratch-off.
The Gaithersburg man bought the winning instant ticket at Grog Beer, Wine & Deli in Gaithersburg. He plays all Lottery games, but particularly enjoys scratch-offs.
The $20 instant ticket he chose is the game’s second edition and has three separate crossword areas, each with a multiplier section. The first two puzzle areas yielded no prizes but puzzle three was a different story. The “your letter” section of his instant ticket delivered eight word matches, which by itself is a $10,000 prize. In addition, he revealed a 50X multiplier, bringing his total winnings to $500,000.
The lucky winner says that he plans to use his fortune to buy a new home.
Grog Beer, Wine & Deli located at 513 Quince Orchard Road in Montgomery County will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off worth $100,000 or more. This is the first $500,000 top-prize win on this instant ticket since it went on sale in February. The game began with five top prizes and this win leaves four remaining along with all seven of its $50,000 second-tier prizes and 17 $10,000 prizes.
