Where to Play

Play At Any Maryland Lottery Retailer

Powerball is readily available across the State. You can pick up a ticket at one of over 4,800 Maryland Lottery retailers.

Powerball is easy to play. Just pick any 5 numbers from 1 to 69 and a Powerball number between 1 and 26. Use favorite numbers, birthdays or your lucky numbers. The choice is yours. Picking the numbers is part of the fun! You can also choose the Quick Pick feature to get a randomly generated set of numbers.

You can watch the drawings at powerball.com.

Nine Ways To Win Playing Powerball

In addition to matching all 5 white ball numbers and the Powerball number to win the Top Powerball jackpot prize, there are 8 other ways to win prizes ranging from $4 to $1,000,000.

Be sure to always check your tickets closely to see if you’re a winner!

Visit a Maryland Lottery Retailer

You must be 18 years old or older to buy or cash Powerball tickets.

Provide the Maryland Lottery retailer with your playslip or use a self-service terminal to manually select your numbers or select “quick pick.” Before you use your playslip, be sure to verify that the numbers selected on your playslip are the numbers you want to play.

About Powerball Playslips:

  • Playslips are available at any Maryland Lottery® retail location or create and use the e-playslip available on the MD Lottery mobile app.
  • Each playslip has five play areas or panels. You can play up to five Powerball® plays on each playslip! Each play costs $2.
  • A play consists of two fields. Select and mark five (5) numbers from 1 to 69 in the upper field and select and mark one Powerball number from 1 to 26 in the lower field. If you select too many or too few numbers, your playslip will be rejected.
  • Make a heavy vertical mark through each number you choose. Use only pencil or blue or black ink. Red ink will not be accepted. If you make a mistake, mark the “VOID” box to the right of that panel. Then use any remaining open panels to complete your selections. Please do not attempt to erase errors.
  • If you want the terminal to randomly “Quick Pick” your numbers, mark the “QP” box in the upper field for the White Balls and/or the “QP” box in the lower field for the Powerball for each play you want to purchase.
  • Mark the Power Play® box to add the Power Play option; that option adds $1 to each play.
  • Mark the Double Play box to add the Double Play option; that option adds $1 to each play.
  • If you are using the ePlayslip on the MD Lottery mobile app, follow the same instructions, but instead of handing your paper playslip to the retailer for processing, your ePlayslip will be scanned from your mobile phone.
  • It is your responsibility to make sure your playslip represents the numbers you wish to play, the drawing(s) you want to enter, and all other information you want.

Drawings – Play More than One!

Powerball drawings are held three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights. You can play the same numbers for 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 or 15 drawings in a row, including the next drawing, by marking the appropriate “NUMBER OF DRAWS” box on a playslip or selecting the number of draws at the self-service terminal.

Powerball: $2 x Number of Plays x Number of Drawings = Total Ticket Cost

Powerball with Power Play: $3 x Number of Plays x Number of Drawings = Total Ticket Cost

Powerball with Double Play: $3 x Number of Plays x Number of Drawings = Total Ticket Cost

Powerball with Power Play and Double Play: $4 x Number of Plays x Number of Drawings = Total Ticket Cost

Powerball Tickets

POWERBALL TICKETS CANNOT BE CANCELLED OR VOIDED AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN PROCESSED. Tickets are only valid for the drawing date(s) shown on the ticket. Ticket sales end approximately one hour before drawing time, and sales for the next game begin immediately. If you are a winner before the final day on your ticket, you can still cash your ticket immediately. You will receive an exchange ticket for the remaining days of play. Winning tickets must be cashed in the state/jurisdiction where they were purchased.

Power Play®

Increase your winnings for an extra $1 per play when you mark the Power Play® option on your playslip. On all except the Jackpot prize and the Match 5 ($1,000,000) prize, Power Play numbers are used to multiply your winnings in the Powerball game immediately following the Power Play drawing. The Power Play multiplier numbers are 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. The 10X multiplier will be available when the jackpot prize level is $150 million or less.

How it Works

For example, if you win $100 by matching 4 white balls and you added Power Play for $1, and the Power Play number drawn is 5, you multiply your winnings by 5 for a total winning amount of $500.  If you play Power Play and win the Match 5 prize, your winning amount will be doubled from $1 million to $2 million, regardless of the Power Play number selected. The Power Play number is randomly selected before each Powerball draw and will not appear on your ticket. The Power Play multiplier does not apply to the Jackpot prize.

Prize Structure

See the Powerball Prize Structure on mdlottery.com for prize amounts and probabilities.  Power Play probabilities of winning are approximate.

Double Play

Add a little more fun with Powerball Double Play. It’s a second drawing that happens 30 minutes after every Powerball drawing, giving you the chance to win up to $10 million with the same numbers on your Powerball ticket.

How it Works

Powerball players can add the Double Play option to their Powerball ticket for an additional $1. Each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, a separate Double Play drawing will be conducted approximately 30 minutes after the Powerball drawing. Adding Double Play makes the ticket eligible to win prizes in both the Powerball drawing and the Double Play drawing.

Prize Structure

See the Powerball Prize Structure on mdlottery.com for prize amounts and probabilities.  Double Play drawings have a prize structure separate from Powerball. Double Play probabilities of winning are approximate.

How to Win

Every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night, five white balls from 1 to 69 and one red Powerball® from 1 to 26 will be drawn. You win a prize by matching some or all of the numbers drawn, as shown in the Powerball® Prize Structure on mdlottery.com. You can only win once per panel. Probabilities are rounded.

When a prize is claimed, Jackpot winners will have the option to receive your Jackpot prize in a single (“cash”) payment or in annuity payments. A Jackpot prize will be paid as an annuity of 30 graduated payments over consecutive years, unless the winner selects the cash payment method within 60 days of the Ticket validation date. The cash payment amount will be lower than the announced annuity prize. Variations in the announced Jackpot prize may occur. Jackpot prize payments may be rounded down to the nearest one thousand dollars ($1,000).

How is Powerball changing?

Beginning Monday, August 23, Powerball will expand from two nights a week to three, with drawings each Monday night in addition to Wednesday and Saturday nights. Also beginning August 23, Powerball will launch the new Double Play add-on feature. Each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, a separate Double Play drawing will be conducted approximately 30 minutes after the Powerball drawing. Players who add the Double Play option to their Powerball ticket will be able to win prizes in both drawings.

How does Double Play work?

Powerball players can add the Double Play option to their Powerball ticket for an additional $1. Adding Double Play makes the ticket eligible to win prizes in both the Powerball drawing and the Double Play drawing.

How do the prize structures work?

Double Play drawings have a prize structure separate from Powerball. The Powerball prize structure is not changing. Double Play prizes start at $7 and range up to $10 million. Here is the Double Play prize structure:

Will I have a separate set of numbers for the Double Play drawing?

No. When you buy a Powerball ticket and add the Double Play option, the numbers on your ticket are good for both drawings.

Can I buy a ticket for only the Double Play drawing?

No. Double Play is a Powerball add-on feature. You must purchase a $2 Powerball ticket in order to add the $1 Double Play option to your ticket.

Is the price of Powerball tickets changing?

No. The base price of Powerball tickets will remain $2. The optional Double Play and Power Play add-on features each cost $1.

Is the range of numbers in Powerball changing?

No. Players will still select five numbers from a range of 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from a range of 1 to 26. Both the Powerball and Double Play drawings will be conducted using those number ranges.

Is Power Play still available?

Yes. You can add the Power Play option to your Powerball ticket for an additional $1. Adding the Power Play option allows you to multiply any prizes you win in the Powerball drawing, except for the jackpot.

Will Power Play allow me to multiply prizes in the Double Play drawing?

No. The Power Play multiplier will only apply to prizes won in the Powerball drawing. Prizes won in the Double Play drawing can’t be multiplied.

Can a Powerball ticket include both the Double Play option and the Power Play option?

Yes. Adding both Double Play and Power Play will bring the total cost to $4 for each line of numbers you buy. Your options for Powerball tickets are:

  • Powerball: $2 (ticket is eligible for prizes only in the Powerball drawing; no prizes will be multiplied)
  • Powerball + Power Play: $3 (ticket is eligible for prizes only in the Powerball drawing; all prizes except for the jackpot will be multiplied)
  • Powerball + Double Play: $3 (ticket is eligible for prizes in both the Powerball drawing and Double Play drawing; no prizes will be multiplied)
  • Powerball + Power Play + Double Play: $4 (ticket is eligible for prizes in both the Powerball drawing and Double Play drawing; all prizes won in the Powerball drawing except for the jackpot will be multiplied)

Will the Powerball and Double Play drawings be conducted using the same balls and machines?

No. There will be separate machines and ball sets. In Powerball drawings, the ball set for the five numbers from 1 to 69 will be white, and the ball set for the Powerball number from 1 to 26 will be red. In Double Play drawings, the ball set for the five numbers from 1 to 69 will be black, and the ball set for the Double Play Powerball number from 1 to 26 will be red.

What time are the two drawings held?

Powerball drawings occur at 10:59 p.m., and are shown on WBAL-TV at 11:22 p.m. The Double Play drawings occur between 11:30 and 11:40 p.m. and will be live streamed on Powerball.com. Videos of all drawings are archived on Powerball’s YouTube channel.

Why is there a delay between the two drawings?

The drawings are conducted by the Florida Lottery, which has drawings of Florida Lottery games scheduled at 11:15 p.m. The break between Powerball and Double Play will also help to differentiate between the two drawings.

Why is Powerball adding a drawing on Monday nights?

The Monday drawings will help to deliver bigger, faster-growing jackpots. While the Powerball jackpot is always a life-changing amount, lotteries across the country have heard from many players that they enjoy playing for larger jackpots. The additional ticket sales that come with adding a third drawing are expected to produce larger, faster-growing jackpots, increase the number of prizes awarded and increase contributions to vital state programs and services that are supported by state lotteries.

Where are Powerball tickets sold?

Powerball tickets are sold in 45 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Not all states are offering the Double Play option, but it will be available in Maryland.

Is Double Play available in all states and jurisdictions?

No. There are 13 lotteries planning to offer Double Play when it launches on August 23: Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee and Washington. Additional lotteries may decide to add Double Play at a later date.
