Temple Hills Man’s $100,000 Lottery Win Follows $1 million, $50,000 Prizes

This “Three-Time Winner” of Temple Hills just claimed his most recent Lottery prize, a $100,000 score. He previously won $50,000 in 2012 and a cool $1 million in 2018.

Latest score comes on $10 scratch-off

A player from Temple Hills is something of a Maryland Lottery winning ticket magnet. The $100,000 scratch-off prize he claimed on March 31 was the third Lottery prize he’s won that was worth five digits or more.

His previous big wins came in 2012, when he hit Bonus Match 5 for a $50,000 top prize, and in 2018, when he won $1 million playing Multi-Match.

Good luck comes naturally to this anonymous “Three-Time Winner,” which is a nickname he selected to tell his story. He captured his latest prize playing a $10 Gold instant ticket he bought at Modern Liquors in Temple Hills. “Three-Time Winner” took the game home and, just before bedtime, remembered the instant ticket. He scratched it off and realized he had won one of the game’s nine $100,000 top prizes.

“I said, ‘Oh my gosh. I’d better go to bed now,’” he recalled, telling Lottery officials that winning for him is “a pretty regular thing.”

The 72-year-old player will use proceeds from his prize the same way he used past winnings: He will help his mom, who is in her 90s. “She’s a golden citizen. I’m a senior citizen,” he said. His Lottery winnings in the past helped pay medical and other bills for his mother and his late father.

This prize will also go toward home improvements, some of which will enhance his gardening hobby. And, as a supporter of charitable causes, “Three-Time Winner” said he will increase his contributions to organizations like Doctors Without Borders and others helping victims of the Russian war against Ukraine.

“Three-Time Winner” plans to keep playing Maryland Lottery games, too. He enjoys draw games, like Bonus Match 5 and Multi-Match, but plays scratch-offs when he’s feeling lucky. His strategy is simple. He sets an amount aside for playing the Lottery and doesn’t exceed it. When he wins, he wins. When he doesn’t, he still has a good time.

“It’s just satisfying to know you can win,” he said.

Also sharing in the fun of the top-prize win is Modern Liquors. The Prince George’s County Lottery retailer located at 2358 Iverson Street receives a bonus of $1,000 from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
