A man from Texas, who was visiting family in Maryland, is going home with an extra $41,799 after playing a quick round of the Maryland Lottery’s animated horseracing game Racetrax at a Capitol Heights gas station.
His brother at his side, the winner claimed his prize July 29 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
He played a simple Superfecta straight bet of $1 for three races on horses 12, 7, 1, and 10. On the second of his three games, his horses finished in that exact order. In Racetrax, the horses are numbered 1 through 12, with the No. 1 horse having the best chances of winning, and the 12 horse having the longest odds. Since three of the Texas player’s horses were relatively long odds (7, 10 and 12) the payoff on a $1 bet was substantial.
As of the time he claimed, the winner had no plans for his winnings and said he would need to think about it.
Also picking up a little extra money is the Hampton Mall Exxon at 8901 Central Avenue in Capitol Heights, which receives a bonus of $417.99 for selling the winning ticket.
