Tony Lightner, from Baltimore, plans on sleeping soundly after he won $100,000 on The Big Spin Wheel.
The second edition of THE BIG SPIN scratch-off game arrived at Maryland Lottery retailers on March 20, and last week two players had the chance to visit Lottery headquarters to give The Big Spin Wheel a whirl and win cash.
THE BIG SPIN is a $5 scratch-off game. Players who uncover a “SPIN” symbol on their tickets can scan them at a Maryland Lottery retailer or with the Maryland Lottery mobile app to reveal the prize. Most tickets with the “SPIN” symbol will deliver cash prizes of $10 to $250, but the game launched with eight winning tickets that will send players to try their luck with The Big Spin Wheel in Baltimore. The 6-foot-tall gameshow-style wheel has prizes that range from $50,000 to $250,000.
The first two of those eight tickets have been redeemed, and the winners visited Lottery headquarters on April 3 to spin The Big Wheel.
The day began with Tony Lightner of Baltimore visiting the Winner’s Circle with his brother and sister-in-law by his side. It had been a week since he confirmed he held one the much sought-after Big Wheel spin tickets.
The Johns Hopkins employee told Lottery officials, “I haven’t gotten much sleep this past week.”
Tony should be sleeping much better after his wheel spin landed on a $100,000 prize.
With his newfound windfall, he intends to work on his house and enjoy a nice seafood dinner. And he’s starting to think about retirement after 24 years at Hopkins, noting that the prize money would help with that as well.
“It’s a sunny day, even though it’s cloudy outside,” Tony said, with a smile on his face.
Tony purchased his winning ticket at the Sunoco at 750 East 25th Street in Baltimore City. The retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus, equal to 1% of the prize.
Later that same day, an anonymous Mount Airy man and his wife walked into the Winner’s Circle, eagerly anticipating his turn to spin the wheel. A fan of game shows, his wife said he was really excited for this opportunity.
The mechanic, who chose the nickname “Cowboy,” spun the wheel hard and landed on a $50,000 spot. With the prize, the couple planned to grab a nice lunch on their way home and make some renovations to their house.
“Cowboy” bought his winning ticket at the High’s store at 11780 Old National Pike in New Market. The Frederick County retailer will get a $500 bonus, equal to 1% of the prize.
Six wheel spin prizes remain unclaimed as of April 6. Players can also win instant prizes on THE BIG SPIN ticket, including two unclaimed $50,000 prizes and thousands more ranging from $5 to $5,000.

“Cowboy,” from Mount Airy, love game shows and was excited to spin The Big Spin Wheel, where he won $50,000.
