Baltimore woman wins big on $1 straight wager
Only a week after the Maryland Lottery launched its newest big game, Pick 5, a 62-year-old Baltimore woman placed a $1 straight bet and won $50,000.
She is the third $50,000 winner in the new game. The lucky lady, who is remaining anonymous, couldn’t stop laughing as she stood in the Lottery Winner’s Circle thinking about her big win. Her lucky five-number lineup was 3, 4, 1, 2 and 5 on a bet placed in the Feb. 15 midday drawing.
Building on the long-running success of its Pick 3 and Pick 4 games, the Maryland Lottery added twice-daily drawings of Pick 5 to its lineup beginning Feb. 7.
Pick 5 drawings are televised middays and evenings following the Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawings on WBAL-TV in Baltimore, with drawing videos available on mdlottery.com. Players can pick five-digit combinations or have them randomly selected by the Lottery’s computer system. The game offers 13 different bet types with tickets available for as little as 50 cents. Prizes start at $25 and range up to $50,000 for hitting all five numbers on a $1 straight bet.
Also a winner is the player’s lucky Lottery retailer, Grace Grocery. The Baltimore City business located at 2435 West Lafayette Avenue will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for its role in the winning ticket’s sale.
