While stopping for a cold drink at a convenience store 100 yards into Maryland, a lucky player found the Lottery ticket he’s dreamed about for years. That ticket, a Money Bags scratch-off, delivered a $50,000 win to the Delaware resident.
“I tried to get my drink a few minutes earlier but traffic was too heavy to get over,” the custodian told Lottery officials. “It was annoying then, but looking back, that traffic was one heck of a blessing.” The delay caused him to cross the state line into Maryland and stop for his drink at Thirsty’s in Delmar.
He buys Lottery tickets several times a month. When asked about his June 6 Money Bags purchase, he replied, “There’s no real reason why I bought a ticket then. The idea just sort of popped into my mind.” As for his selection of Money Bags, he explained that the game had proven successful for him a few months earlier.
“To be honest, it was a sense of relief that hit me first,” the Delaware man said when asked for his reaction upon seeing the matches that added up to a $50,000 win. “Immediately followed by disbelief, though.” His girlfriend’s Maryland Lottery app quickly dismissed all doubt when he scanned the ticket, kicking off a weekend-long celebration.
Our winner plans to pay-off several bills with his Money Bags prize. The remainder will be shared with several family members who’ve fallen on hard times. “I’ve been trying to figure out ways to lend a hand but haven’t had the means. Now I do. This is a big help.”
Money Bags is a $10 instant ticket that arrived on retailers’ shelves in February. Three of the game’s $250,000 top-prizes remain in circulation as does one more $50,000 second-tier prize. The Wicomico County convenience store that sold this big winner, Thirsty’s, can be found at 9534 Ocean Highway.
