Two $1 Pick 5 Bets Give Eastern Shore Worker a $100,000 Win

Bought lucky tickets for Nov. 10 evening drawing

A loyal Lottery player who favors Pick 4 and Pick 5 games says he places small bets regularly, hoping to repeat a couple big wins he experienced over the years.

“I play tag numbers and addresses and parts of phone numbers,” said the Eastern Shore resident.

He also buys multiple tickets with the same numbers, which was the case on Nov. 10. The Chestertown area resident bought two $1 straight bet Pick 5 tickets for the evening drawing. The numbers he selected – 02675 – were from a license plate number he spotted.

The construction worker was at home later that night when he pulled up the numbers from the evening drawing on his phone. Suddenly, he realized two of his tickets might match that night’s winning numbers.

“I had to go get my wife and get my glasses on to be sure,” he said of his $50,000 win on each ticket. His next step was to sign the tickets and protect them until he could claim his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The lucky player put the tickets in a can and put the can in his safe, where neither fire nor water could damage them. As the days passed, he worried about the two tickets. “I checked on them,” he admitted. “I had to make sure they were still there.”

The winner plans to pay bills with his $100,000 prize. He found his Lottery luck waiting at Suds ‘n’ Soda Discount Beverages, located at 1014 Washington Avenue in Chestertown. The Kent County retailer also benefits from its lucky sale and will receive a combined $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
