A Virginia man who said he is an occasional scratch-off player is glad he decided to play when he did.
He was in Montgomery County recently when he bought a $30 Fire scratch-off ticket. The Alexandria, Va., resident was all smiles as he visited Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore recently, recalling that when he checked the ticket, he discovered that he was a $50,000 winner.
The Northern Virginia construction worker was the first person to claim one of the game’s five $50,000 second-tier prizes. He said he plans to save and invest the prize money. He bought the lucky ticket at R C Checks Cashed located at 11249-11251 Grandview Avenue in Silver Spring. The Fire ticket also has five remaining $10,000 prizes as of May 29, along with thousands of additional prizes ranging from $30 to $5,000.
The Fire ticket launched on April 21, and as of May 29, two of its three $2 million top prizes remained unclaimed. The first of them was claimed by a Halethorpe man.
