Lucky player finds top prize on $50,000 Cash game
A 38-year-old auto detailer and Virginia native got the surprise of his life during his lunch break. The occasional player made a last-minute decision to buy a couple of games at Royal Farms in Gambrills. Among those games was a $50,000 Cash scratch-off that was a $50,000 top-prize winner.
“I really had no plan to buy a ticket for myself, but last week I prayed I would come into some money,” the winner said. “It was just a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing.” The anonymous player chose the nickname “Rush” to tell the story of his win.
The Centreville, Va. man visited Royal Farms #148 located at 1114 Maryland Route 3 North in Anne Arundel County. Scratching off his lucky instant ticket in front of the Lottery vending machine, “Rush” assumed it failed to contain a prize. He almost tossed out the winning $20 scratch-off, which had one matching number and the $50,000 prize hiding beneath the match.
When he scanned the scratch-off, the message indicated a big win. “Rush” was stunned by the size of the prize waiting for him. “I seriously thought for a minute that I was having a heart attack.”
When asked what he would do with his winnings, “Rush” quickly replied, “Save it! This is what I’ve been dreaming about for so long, I can’t let it go to waste. Maybe I’ll even learn about stocks and invest some there.”
The $20 game offered 160 top prizes when it debuted in late December. This win leaves 92 top prizes unclaimed. Management at the lucky Royal Farms will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling this top-prize winning instant ticket.
