Washington County Man Scratches His Way to $50,000 Prize

Unsuspecting winner claims top prize on “$” (Dollar Sign) scratch-off game

A young man from Washington County found himself in the right place at the right time, and brought in the new year $50,000 richer.

The winner was on his way to work when he stopped at the store for a couple things. While waiting in line, he noticed a bright, new green scratch-off ticket. He almost passed on buying the new “$” (Dollar Sign) game, but decided to give it a try.

He scratched his tickets in the store while waiting to use the restroom. “I was scratching and I saw 13 twice,” he told Lottery officials. “Then, I kept scratching to reveal the amount of $50,000 and I lost my breath.”

He had his Dad doublecheck the ticket, and also scanned it at the store to confirm the win. Before this, his largest Lottery win was $500.

In addition to scratch-offs, the Lottery fan enjoys FAST PLAY and Keno.

The generous winner plans to help his Dad get a new truck and renovate their family home.

The lucky Lottery retailer, West End Liberty gas station at 1020 West Washington Street in Hagerstown, also wins. The store will receive a $500 bonus for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.

This is the second “$” (Dollar Sign) top prize win since its launch on Dec. 28. There are now six $50,000 top-prizes remaining. Fourteen $5,000 prizes and 23 $1,000 prizes are still left on the game, as well as hundreds of thousands of prizes ranging from $5 to $500.
