Says $30,879 Racetrax prize going straight to his grandkids’ education
He buys more tickets in the District than he does in Maryland, a retired railroad employee told Lottery officials last week, but whenever he has won big, it’s been north of the border. The D.C. resident’s most recent win, a $30,879 Racetrax prize, is the biggest he’s claimed so far.
“I’ve been up here in Baltimore two other times for Lottery prizes,” he said. “Both times were Racetrax wins and both were longshot bets.”
It’s no wonder that the Lottery’s animated horse racing game is his favorite. “If I’m buying a Lottery ticket in Maryland, you can be sure it’s Racetrax.”
It was back in early June when this round of Lottery luck found our winner. He’d stopped in at AJ Liquors at 3801 Bladensburg Road in Brentwood during a shopping excursion into Maryland.
“I saw the Lottery sign so I went in to play Racetrax.” The ticket went into his wallet, just as all his tickets do. “I had no idea that it was a special ticket.” It wasn’t until several hours later when looking up the results that he realized just how special it was.
“It was a real shocker,” he told Lottery officials. “More so even than the other times I’ve won.”
When we asked why he chose the longshot horses, he replied, “I usually don’t, but three of my biggest wins have been on them (longshot horses). Maybe I’ll start playing them more often.”
The District resident plans to direct his Racetrax winnings toward his grandchildren’s educations. The winning retailer, AJ Liquors, will receive a $308.79 bonus for selling the big winner.
