A Powerball player woke up $100,000 richer today, but may not even know it. Check those tickets because one sold in Prince George’s County for the Aug. 24 drawing matched five of the six numbers drawn for a third-tier win.
The winning numbers drawn last night are: 3-16-33-38-68; and the Powerball is 2. One player matched four of the first five numbers drawn plus the Powerball.
The winner paid an extra $1 for the Power Play option, which increases the prize by a randomly selected multiplier, which came up as 2 last night, increasing the prize from $50,000 to $100,000.
The ticket was sold at the Giant Food store at 5815 Eastern Avenue in Hyattsville.
Powerball has nine different prize levels, including the jackpot for matching all numbers drawn, and a second-tier prize of $1 million for matching all of the first five numbers, but not the Powerball.
The $100,000 ticket was one of many winners sold from last night. Maryland had a total of 8,052 winners with prizes ranging from $4 to $100 for Monday’s drawing.
Maryland Lottery winners have 182 days from the drawing date to claim their prizes.
Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights with a jackpot that starts at $20 million and grows after each drawing in which the jackpot is not won. The next drawing is Wednesday, Aug. 26 when the estimated annuity value of the jackpot will be $96 million with a one-time payment option of $41.2 million.
Tickets are $2 and are sold in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom. Five winning numbers are drawn from a range of 1 to 69, along with one winning Powerball number from a range of 1 to 26.
