A Baltimore man says he feels like he struck gold after uncovering a $50,000 top prize on the Deluxe Crossword scratch-off game.
A proud Baltimore native, the winner said Dec. 3 when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters that he never considered himself lucky — until now. He purchased the winning ticket on a whim at Oat Street Station, 2040 North Howard Street in Baltimore. Not expecting much, he didn’t rush to scratch the ticket when he got home.
“I scratched it, but I still didn’t think it would be anything big,” he said. “I waited until the next day to have it scanned.”
When the retailer scanned the ticket and revealed the $50,000 top prize, the player was stunned.
“I couldn’t believe it. My brother couldn’t believe it,” he shared. “We rushed home, and I showed the ticket to my family. They didn’t believe me either until they saw it. We celebrated all night. It was unbelievable and I never saw it coming, and they didn’t either.”
During his visit to Lottery headquarters, he said the experience has completely changed how he views luck.
“For the first time, I actually feel lucky,” he said.
As for his plans, he’s thinking long term. He intends to save the prize money while considering the best way to invest it. Looking ahead, he says he hopes to return to Lottery headquarters next time with a Mega Millions jackpot win.
“That would be life changing,” he added with a smile.
The win also brings a bonus to Oat Street Station, which receives $500 for selling the top-tier-winning scratch-off.
