$50,000 Win for Montgomery County Man Puts a New House on Horizon

A $50,000 win from a 50X the Cash ticket will help Montgomery County’s Zachary Drennan start a new house fund.

Sometimes he plays and sometimes he doesn’t, Zachary Drennan said Feb. 2 when he claimed a $50,000 Lottery prize. Happily for the on-and-off player, the previous Friday, Jan. 30, was an “on” day and that’s when he bought a winning ticket on the $10 50X the Cash scratch-off.

“I’ll get three or four tickets a week sometimes,” the resident of Boyds in Montgomery County said. “And then go a couple weeks with none. It just depends on the mood I’m in.”

The relatively happy mood Zachary found himself in on Jan. 30 was minutes before the significant boost he got when he and a fellow mechanic stopped by Crystal Rock Exxon for Lottery tickets. He was about to select a game he’d played before when his friend pointed out 50X the Cash, a game that debuted in early January.

“He told me new games had been lucky for him in the past, so I gave it a try,” Zachary said.

The pair scratched their tickets there at the gas station, but before Zachary’s friend was finished, he let out a whoop and took off for the car.

“I thought he’d gone crazy,” the friend said.

The $50,000 win that Zachary had uncovered sent his head spinning.

“All I could think of was getting the ticket home and figuring out how to cash it. I was shouting, hurrying my friend. I know I freaked him out.”

50X the Cash launched on Jan. 9 with nine $100,000 top prizes and ten second-tier $50,000 prizes. Eight of the former and nine of the latter remain in circulation. Crystal Rock Exxon, which sold the second-tier winner, is at 19815 Germantown Road in Germantown.

Zachary told lottery officials his big win will start a fund that will eventually lead to a new home for his family.
