A retired federal employee told Lottery officials she couldn’t believe her luck upon winning $50,000 on a scratch-off ticket, and she’s intent on keeping it secret this time.
According to the winner, keeping it under wraps is no easy feat.
“That this could happen to me again, it’s just mind-boggling,” she reported. The “again” refers to several years ago when she won $100,000 scratching a bingo scratch-off. “The store was crowded so I fought back the urge to shout it out, to tell everyone what had just happened.”
Her previous big win came in August of 2021 on a ticket she purchased at a grocery store in Frederick.
While it remained calm and quiet in the Washingtonian Express convenience store in Frederick the day of her most recent big win, it was anything but inside the winner’s head. She clutched her $50,000 CASH ticket closely, then calmly walked to her car, going over the events of the last few minutes.
“This whole thing was an accident. I wanted to buy two $50,000 CASH tickets but hit the quantity button an extra time by accident.” The Frederick County woman decided to buy that third ticket and, as luck would have it, that ticket turned out to be the ticket.
The $20 game $50,000 CASH is unique among Maryland Lottery scratch-offs in that it features many more top prizes than other $20 games. Upon its debut in December 2022, the game offered 160 top $50,000 prizes, 98 of which have been claimed as of July 21. Along with the 62 big winners still in circulation are 72 second-tier tickets good for $5,000 each.
You’ll find Washingtonian Express at 1395 West Patrick Street. The Frederick County business receives a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize winning instant ticket.
