Ocean City Man Buys Lottery Tickets, His Wife Scratches, They Win $50,000

Air, arc, arid, cape, fawn, idle, knead and urn are the words that gave a couple from Ocean City a $50,000 payday on a Maryland Lottery Deluxe Crossword 10th Edition scratch-off.

“I’m pretty happy,” the husband said Oct. 9 when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The pair has a system when it comes to playing the Lottery, he explained: “I buy them and she scratches them.”

On this occasion, he bought the $5 crossword game at the Royal Farms at 10633 Ocean Gateway in Berlin and brought it home to his wife. She scratched it and realized it was a top-prize winner.

“She smiled, and then she gave it back to me,” said the husband who works in construction. It was his job to claim the prize.

The system seems to be working well, regardless of whether they win a big prize.

“When I’m in trouble, it works better than flowers, and I’m in trouble a lot,” he said.

The two celebrated with a dinner at Waterman’s Seafood in West Ocean City.

The Royal Farms in Berlin receives a bonus of $500 for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off.

The Deluxe Crossword 10th Edition game made its debut just shy of a month ago with eight prizes at the $50,000 level, and the one claimed by the Ocean City couple leaves seven of those unclaimed, along with tens of thousands of others ranging from $5 to $10,000.
